Embracing Our Future Together at the Paradise Missionary Baptist State Convention of Arizona

Updated: Aug 23

The Paradise Missionary Baptist State Convention of Arizona (PMBSCAZ) serves as a vibrant hub of hope and unity, energizing its members and the broader community. Under the diligent leadership of Pastor James L. Harris, Jr., who serves as President, and his supportive team—Pastor Terrance Hatcher as First Vice President and Pastor Larry D. Smith as Second Vice President—the convention is ready to make meaningful changes in the upcoming years. This year's inspiring theme, "Keep Moving Forward 'Little by Little' with our Future in Mind!" drawn from Exodus 23:30, captures the essence of progress and determination that defines PMBSCAZ.

As we gear up for the Third Quarterly (Hybrid) Board Meeting on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., it’s crucial to reflect on the agenda that will guide our discussions and the abundant opportunities that await us. This meeting will be vital for collaboration, community engagement, and open communication among all members.

Greetings and Call to Order

The meeting will open with warm greetings to set a positive atmosphere. Participants will be invited to sign in via Zoom, providing both their names and departments. This simple act encourages connections among members, especially first-time visitors and new pastors who are joining our community. This initial interaction fosters a welcoming environment and helps establish relationships that will be built upon in the future.

Next, we will adopt the meeting agenda and confirm the minutes from the second quarterly board meeting held on April 26, 2025. These actions are crucial for transparency and ensuring everyone is focused on our collective path forward.

Welcoming New Members

An exciting highlight of PMBSCAZ meetings is the chance to recognize and welcome new pastors and guests. This moment honors newcomers while emphasizing our growth as a community. For instance, last quarter, we saw a 20% increase in new members, each bringing unique gifts and perspectives to enrich our congregation. Their active participation is vital for the future of PMBSCAZ, and we are thrilled to include them in our journey.

Overview of the 2025 PMBSC Calendar

Looking ahead, our overview of the PMBSC 2025 calendar will spotlight key meetings and exciting events. The upcoming "Annual Session" from November 6th to 8th at New Home Baptist Church in Phoenix, AZ, led by Pastor Darryl Jackson, promises to be a major gathering. This event will not only celebrate our achievements but also reinforce our commitment to future growth. Last year, attendance at the Annual Session increased by 30%, showcasing the enthusiasm and engagement of our members.

Communications and Reports

We will share important communications and reports from various convention leaders. President Harris will provide updates from NBCUSA, Inc., illustrating our wider engagement with national initiatives. Additionally, Pastor Shawn Buckhanan or a representative will shed light on Home Missions. Dr. Donta McGlivery will discuss social justice initiatives, emphasizing our commitment to vital societal matters. These reports create opportunities for members to connect with PMBSCAZ's broader mission and understand how their efforts contribute to positive changes in our community.

Financial Contributions

Financial support is essential for sustaining the mission of PMBSCAZ. Members are encouraged to contribute, with checks made out to PMBSC and sent to 3129 E. Liberty Lane, Phoenix, AZ 85048, c/o Tommie Williams, Jr. Contributions can also be made via Zelle at paradisestate1920@gmail.com. Ensuring that PMBSCAZ has the resources to thrive is a shared responsibility that enhances our ability to serve effectively.

Auxiliary Deliberations

Following the communications and reports, we will enter the auxiliary deliberations segment. This time is reserved for various PMBSCAZ departments to discuss their initiatives, successes, and challenges. Each auxiliary's input is essential in achieving our collective mission, illustrating the strength found in collaboration.

In addition, reports from key auxiliaries—including the State Missionary, Minister’s Conference, Congress of Christian Education, Children’s/Youth, Laymen’s, Usher’s, and Women’s departments—will provide valuable insights. These updates highlight the diverse ways PMBSCAZ is making a meaningful impact in the community.

Closing Announcements & Prayer Requests

As we conclude the meeting, there will be space for closing announcements and prayer requests. This moment underscores the importance of prayer within our convention and the community at large. Members will be encouraged to share their prayer needs, fostering an environment of support and encouragement.

Moving Forward Together

PMBSCAZ stands as a testament to faith, community, and collaboration. As we gather for the Third Quarterly Board Meeting, we are reminded of the importance of moving forward together "Little by Little." Each member plays a vital role in shaping our direction, and collectively, we can achieve remarkable things.

Let us embrace the opportunities that lie ahead, continue to support one another, and build a vibrant community that reflects God's love and grace. With exciting events and initiatives on the horizon, may we stay committed to serving our community and advancing the mission of PMBSCAZ. Together, we can create a lasting impact and a brighter future for all.
